West of Blackburn Park on Lilac Avenue, the homeowners were in desperate need of more space for their family.
Their house previously had a tiny family room addition tacked on the rear, but only three small bedrooms for a family of five.
The plan was to reorganize all levels of the house to create a more functional and spacious plan, while providing a more cohesive design from the interior and exterior.
The first floor would replace sleeping spaces with larger living spaces and a full second floor was added to provide five roomy bedrooms, including a master suite.

The second floor replaced the master bedroom in a cramped attic space.
Four bedrooms and a Master Suite increased the number of sleeping spaces from three to five.
Additionally, a Laundry area was created next to the new hall bath.
The Master Suite includes a large sleeping area, a walk-in closet, and a Bath with tub, shower, water closet and lavatory.
The new stair allowed easy access to the second floor from the family room/kitchen and continues to an attic space above for storage.
The exterior elements were successful in creating the appearance of a large farmhouse on this oversized lot.
A high pitch roof created useable space in the attic and the use of a dormer over the stair area helped break up an otherwise long, plain elevation.
Minor gables were sided with a fish scale shingle pattern.
Contrasting white trim and horizontal banding at the second floor line visually broke up two stories of siding.
A front porch was added to the home, bringing the tall two and a half story house back to a human scale at the entrance.
Working within the original footprint of the home allowed preservation of a lush landscape.
